Chicago-area Blue Bella Records saw three of its bands win awards at the 2010 Blues Blast Music Awards at Buddy Guy's Legends Thursday, October 28.

Label owner Nick Moss' Privileged took home the award for Best Contemporary Blues Recording, Kilborn Alley Blues Band won Best Blues Song for "Better Off Now," the title cut from their 2010 album, and Cash Box Kings won the Sean Costello Rising Star award.

In addition to handing out awards for outstanding blues performances from the past year, Blues Blast honored the legendary Otis Rush with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Rush has been in declining health over the past few years after suffering a stroke but was on hand when the award was presented.

Tommy Castro Band won Band of the Year at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis earlier this year and followed that up with the same award at the BBMAs. Mississippi Heat's Let's Live It Up won Best Blues Recording, Magic Slim and Shemekia Copeland won awards as Best Male and Female Blues Artists, and Jackie Scott & The Housewreckers won Best New Artist Debut for How Much Woman Can You Stand?

Winners are chosen by subscribers to Blues Blast Magazine, a free, online blues magazine (see my ballot). Voters select winners in eight categories while the Lifetime Achievement recipient is chosen by the editorial staff of Blues Blast.
