Madeline Peyroux walks about with a guitar case strapped to her back, ready to make music, only now, she doesn't just sing the songs, she writes them as for her newest album, "Bare Bones," which follows her million-selling "Careless Love" and "Half the Perfect World." This former streets-of-Paris busker is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Tuesday, June 23 at 8 p.m. as part of the Danbury Audi Jazz Series. Working with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Peyroux will donate $1 from each ticket sold to a local charity through the NCADV.
Previous to "Bare Bones," Ms. Peyroux worked with the safety net of recording covers of such singers as Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, Hank Williams and Edith Piaf, and indeed that approach helped launch her career. However, she always had the urge to write. "It's almost as if I were doing my first album over again," she explains.
Madeline Peyroux, who the New York Times says "has a Mona Lisa voice and a personality to match . . . you can read whatever emotions you want in her sly, enigmatic interpretations," will be joined on stage by Jon Herington (guitar), Larry Goldings (keyboards), Barak Mori (bass) and Darren Beckett (drums).
