e city's summer festival calendar is starting to fill up.

The Calgary International Blues Music Festival announced its 2009 lineup yesterday at Mikey's Juke Joint in the southwest.

Legendary soul man Booker T. and veteran Canadian musician Colin James headline the fifth annual event, which runs Aug. 6 to 9 at Pumphouse Park.

Best known for his 1962 classic, Green Onions, Booker T. recently released his first solo album in 20 years, Potato Hole.

James -- who has had success with his jazzier big band projects -- will open the festival with fellow main-stagers Diunna Greenleaf & Blues Mercy from Houston and Calgary's A Little Voodoo.

Friday evening's mainstage acts include American guitarist Joe Bonamassa and Watermelon Slim & the Workers.

It may be the last time Calgarians get to see Watermelon Slim in town as he is going into semi-retirement later this year.

The mainstage will kick off at noon on Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9 with performances by Cuba's Elmer Ferrer Band, California's Tommy Castro Band, local 'Guru of the Blues' Tim Williams, traditional R&B revue band The Mocking Shadows and Juno award-winning keyboardist Julian Fauth.

A four-day festival pass is $129 (plus GST) and can be purchased online at www.calgarybluesfest.com
