Third time’s a charm! Last year was a smashing success and we were blessed with a perfect day filled with fabulous blues music, great food and lots of dancing and smiles. Most importantly, we were able to donate $12,000 to three well-deserving charities that were able to leverage the contributions to provide shelter and care for those in our community that are in need. A hearty thank you to our advertisers, sponsors and donors – you really do make a difference in people’s lives.

This year, for our THIRD ANNUAL BONITA BLUES FESTIVAL, we have narrowed our scope and donations will benefit the Bonita Springs Assistance Office. Since its founding in 1979, the Bonita Springs Assistance Office has been recognized as the primary social service agency in the area. Generous donations from Bonita Springs residents have enabled the assistance office to continue to provide to those in our community who are less fortunate. The Bonita Springs Assistance Office believes in providing a “hand up” and not a “hand out.” The assistance office extends the helping hand of assistance, shows clients who are able to work how to locate jobs and become productive members of the community, and specializes in working with elderly residents and families with young children. All donations remain in this area to benefit residents in crisis. Over the years, these emergency programs have helped thousands of residents get back on their feet. See www.bsao.org for a list of services provided.

This year we are thrilled to feature Jony James from Buffalo, NY and Joey Gilmore, legendary bluesman from Ft. Lauderdale. In addition, by popular demand, we were able to get Albert Castiglia back again this year after his unbelievable, crowd rousing performance last year. Albert’s song “Bad Year Blues,” a track written and performed by Albert on his 2008 CD release, These Are the Days, was nominated for “2008 Song of the Year” by The Blues Foundation.

As part of our commitment to the community we will also be featuring two local blues groups - Rastus Kain and Tommy Lee Cook with Danny Shepard and the Allstars - that are certain to inspire our audience as did Little Eddie and the Fat Fingers and Blind Pass last year.

Once again we will have plenty to eat and drink and we have already placed our order for another perfect day at one of the finest musical venues in southwest Florida. So mark you calendar, dust off the lawn chairs and dig out your dancing shoes for our Third Annual Bonita Blues Festival. We look forward to seeing you at Riverside Park in Bonita Springs on Saturday March 14, 2009 from noon ‘til 8:00.

Sincerely,
Michael Pfeffer, President
Bonita Blues Charitable Foundation
